Can Coin It!

I love the idea of coin banks. I’ve bought them for friends as gifts and love to see them filling the shelves online and inside storefront retailers everywhere. On many occasion, I fill my chipped and sticker covered Double Decker bus souvenir bank that I picked up in a touristy store in London in ’97. I can’t seem to part with it but at the same time, can’t get myself to leave it out in a room as an accent piece and a reminder to save change. So I look for more sculptural pieces that can double as decorative art. I just saw this one at Fred Flare. It’s a gold can which could easily pass as trash from the prior nights party but I like the cheeky idea.

A penny saved is a penny earned.

Happy Halloween Ya’ll.

From me and my furry four-legged sidekick {pssst, that’s a jockey}.

A Rose is a Rose is a Rose Cluster.

A fellow designer friend posted a picture she took at this seasons High Point Market showing Arteriors Caviar Large Rose Gold and Ross Glass Cluster chandelier. I freakin’ love it! The fixture is adjustable from 51″ to 87″ in height and is almost 30 inches wide. It exudes a hint of masculinity along with a sophisticated silhouette. Perfect for a tall flyer, dining room or sassing up up a large kitchen island. Finally, that pinky gold gets glam outside of the jewelry box. Who says pink just’s for girls?

Send The Monster Mash.

I am ghoulish over Jib Jab’s creative Halloween eCards. My cousin Lindsay posted one on her Facebook page {the Monster Mash one below} and it was adorable! Check it out! Boo!

Hang Your ABC’s.

Looking for kids wall art ideas today and stumbled across this laser cut wooden alphabet art. I love the letters running together to form a diminutional yet one-peice work of art. Simple. Natural. Smart.

Back from the Motherland.

The motherland. That for me – at this very moment in time would be Napa Valley. I was there in mid-October for one of the most important events of my life. The romance and memories will last forever. It will always be the place where I shared my heart and hand. And I am ready to return.

Top Bedside Tables for a Patient of Perfection.

There are three things left to purchase to perfect my bedroom look – an upholstered bed and possibly two bedside tables. I have two great ones now but could use a little discreet storage {ahem}. I’ve given myself to the end of the year to make it happen. I like the symmetry of a bed being squeezed by two of the same thing… It gives me  a sense of order before bedtime. After peeling through the latest Serena & Lily catalog, which just gets better and better, I rest my eyes on the Ceylon Side Table. A symmetrical, functional, and stylish bed side table with storage. Then I thought, but I still like that other one from Bungalow 5. Or that one from Oly Studio works beautifully. I want to experience them all. That’s the fun of being a decorator. An eternally practicing patient of perfection. =)

Darryl Carter Gets Neutral Paint Right.

For extra help with paint colors, and especially those chosen by famed local interior designer, Darryl Carter, check out Benjamin’s Moore’s feature on Darryl’s six color categorys. He plays it safe with these selections, but very room can be enhanced by one of those listed. His love of clean neutrals as wall colors – for the right spaces – sets him apart from the rest of the pack. White really is a color people. Get painting.

Virginia is for *Fall* Lovers.

virignia

Looks like my good ‘ol home state of Virginia is stepping up to the Things-To-Do plate and giving it’s residents and visitors some worthwhile attractions at it’s website www.virginia.org/fall. From food festivals, scenes drives, wine festivals, apple picking, pumpkin patches and crazy mazes, looks like anyone can fall in love with the state of Virginia when the cool air settles in. For an up to date report on the changing leaves, call the Fall foliage hotline at 1-800-424-love. Awwww.

Sweet Words. And a Malbec.

Yesterday, we did some winery hopping with my cousin and his lovely wife Mia. While we were at the tasting counter, my sweetheart leaned over and made his own tasting note on my paper. He never fails to put a smile on my face {and a flutter in my heart}. xo
