I’m hunkered down at home waiting for the snow to show its ugly side. Two feet maybe? I’m ready for a Saturday of shoveling, playing with my pup for hours in the deep snow, warming in front of my fireplace, and watching the world go by slloowwllyy. According to the Washington Times, snowfalls of this magnitude are quite rare in the area. The National Weather Service states that Washington has gotten more than a foot of snow only 13 times since 1870. The biggest snowfall is believed to have occurred in 1772, before official records were kept. As much as 3 feet fell in the Washington-Baltimore area during that storm, and both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson mentioned the event in their diaries, according to the weather service.
Cool. I’d like to see more of those diaries.
