Wait, don’t paint those walls just yet. Hold off on the new bed linens. It’s getting cold in DC and I find my thoughts wandering off to warmer vistas with turquoise waters. So shoud you. Right here at home. Pantone has just named its 2010 color of the year! The global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, selected the luminous color Turquoise based on its juxtaposition of tranquil blue notes and energizing green tones. Way to go Pantone 15-5519 TCX and Pantone 15-5519 TCX. In the essence of color therapy, the color house says that the hue should evoke soothing, serene emotions, while restoring vigor, zest, and motivation. Its motivating enough for me. Wonderful against saffron yellow, deep begonia pinks glossy black, and the whitest of whites, this color never fails to please.

I love love love these napkin rings from HSN.com. At first glance they look like gorgeous bracelet cuffs. But these sophisticated accents are meant for the dinner table, not your girls night out. Antique concave gold tone brass metal cuffs carry amethyst or smoky natural stones measuring about 1 3/4″ each. Bling out your next dinner party with pretty white peonies, white linen, pretty candles and these gems.
Truitt: Maximum Minimalism.

What museums are you visiting this December? I’m entering a day on my calendar to visit the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and view exhibit called “Anne Truitt: Perception and Reflection“. Anne Pruitt, an abstractionist who died five years ago at age 83, created works of art that are credited with jumpstarting the Minimalist movement in the early 1960’s. Her art was perceived as abstract, pared-down, human in scale, and handmade. Born in Baltimore, Truitt was trained as a therapist at Bryn Mawr College and, later, as an artist at Washington’s Institute of Contemporary Art. I hear that at the end of the exhibit there is a short film about her life and achievements. If the Hirshhorn is in your future plans, get ready for more maximum impact rather then minimalist art!
Listen to a podcast on Truitt from the curator at the Baltimore Museum.

Leave it up to a cut-out dress-me-doll President Obama to show us what to wear tomorrow or this weekend without seeking forecast insight from the local weatherman (who get paid to give us a 50% chance of whatever). Although cute in concept, I’d prefer to see the First Lady’s forecast for the week. Ball gowns and wellies?
PS. Why does it look like Obama has less of a smirk when it comes to Saturday and Sunday?

Ok. Its the third year in a row that you’ve asked Santa for that classic quilted Chanel bag. Christmas day arrives and … nope, nothing. Don’t fret. Dreams do come true. So let’s start making memories now. I just found this fashionable camcorder at Digital Camera Company. I love it! It’s called the Riviera Camcordera and it’s just as compact, quilted to the touch, dripping with metallic touches, and packed with storage as your Chanel favorite. This camcorder is eye-catching and much more luxurious in style then it’s gunmetal grey counterparts. As Coco Chanel once exclaimed. “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” Wishes do come true.
A cute gift idea might be as simple as a pretty and eye-catching piece of soap. Urban Outfitters is selling two multi-color, faceted , and funky Rock Soaps. Find a sleek and straight-lined silver dish and voila – something unique and unexpected to get all sudsy about.
For something a little less edgy and a lot more classic, check out Urban’s blog post on Tom Fords Soap on a Rope. A cool stocking stuffer for your lovely guy.
